Whoever advised President Seretse Khama Ian Khama that the best response to a national crisis or tragedy is to remain silent, has done Botswana a disservice. If there is any time when a president should be visible it is when a country is going through an economic, political, and social upheaval. The idea is to assure the nation that things are under control and government is as concerned as everyone else. In Botswana the President seems to think otherwise.

Nigeria religious clash 'kills 500' near Jos
Some 500 people, including many women and children, are now reported to have died in a weekend religious clash near Nigeria's city of Jos, officials say.
The figure had previously been put at about 100 but it is always difficult to verify casualties. Local officials said dozens of arrests had been made.
They said three mainly Christian villages near Jos were attacked from nearby hills by people with machetes.

FRANCISTOWN: North East region has endorsed the candidacy of Gaborone Central Member of Parliament (MP) Dumelang Saleshando for the presidency of Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

When Slizer aka Naledi Kaisara dropped her first ever house kwasa album O tswa kae, thousands of Batswana instantly welcomed her into the dog eat dog musical industry with pomp and fanfare catapulting her to instant stardom in 2008. She became a household name overnight beating established top artists and giving them a run for their money. As if that were not enough, she scooped the best Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) female artist award, beating artists including Mercy, Tot to mention but only a handful in 2009. In every street corner, local bars, shebeens and night clubs her new type of musical vibe drove Batswana crazy.
Who is fooling who?
Bodies of young and old, strong and weak, rich and poor, celebrities and “nobodies” would be strewn across the streets and covered all over with broken glasses of shattered windows. Others would be buried under the rubble, and those who have been lucky to survive would be with broken limbs. The once self-imposing and beautiful skyscrapers would be reduced to nothing but dust and ghost houses. There would be smell of blood and death everywhere.
In desperation and desolation people would dig through the rubble with their bare hands in search of their loved ones. Mothers would be searching for their children, brothers for their sisters, and children for their parents. This time it would not be peaches and cream but sorrow, and pain of bitter and salty tears.
