Opposition parties take leap of faith?

Opposition parties take leap of faith?

While the media is awash with the exodus of  Members of Parliament (MPs) from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to its splinter, Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), opposition parties, too, are busy preparing themselves to enter the battlefield, this time around, fully armed. Recently, they found it fitting to field people of high integrity, who have the capacity to lead their parties to the promised land.

It is without doubt that the BMD, Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and Botswana National Front (BNF) have youthful leaders whom the country understands well their capability. Gomolemo Motswaledi, the current BMD leader, has the masses on his side. He has, time and again, proven to be a visionary leader.

EU tightens sanctions over Iran nuclear programme

EU foreign ministers have adopted tougher sanctions targeting Iran's energy sector, in an effort to block its controversial nuclear programme.

There are new restrictions on foreign trade, financial services and the oil and gas sectors - the backbone of Iran's economy.

Officials said the package was "by some way the most far-reaching sanctions adopted by the EU against any country".

The move comes a month after the US strengthened its own sanctions on Iran.

Batswana let’s live a meaningful life

Batswana let’s live a meaningful life

Life is full of surprises and many difficult challenges. These challenges sometimes overcome us. We become so helpless. We start to groan in pain. This should not come as a surprise because our Lord and saviour suffered dearly in this world of sorrow and misery. When the son of man came into this world he promised us that he came so that we may have life in abundance. So what went wrong to the extent that we find ourselves cursing for the misfortunes we experience in our lives? Do you remember what I said? Didn’t I tell you that most people live the lives which they were not meant to live due to lack of purpose which is in accordance with what the creator (God) has placed in each one of us?. I hope by now you are busy working upon your life purpose, vision and values which are congruent with that of your society or community.

Change of government possible

Change of government possible

Two main opposition parties held their congresses over the President’s Day holidays and elected new young and vibrant leaders.  The election of Dumelang Saleshando and Duma Boko  to the presidency of Botswana Congress Party(BCP) and Botswana National Front(BNF) respectively, coupled with extraordinary visits of Botswana Movement for Democracy’s (BMD) Gomolemo Motswaledi and his acquaintances, has left members of these parties imbued with euphoria. Members of BCP, BMD and BNF are optimistic that opposition parties can cooperate and dethrone the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).  This sanguinity, it must be argued, is neither flimsy nor improbable.  BDP has split after about 48 years since its formation and the BMD continues to attract not just ordinary ruling party members but legislators and councillors as well as some very important activists.
