MPs Praise Barclays Botswana Members of Parliament have commended Barclays Bank of Botswana for its active participation in national development. In their comments at a recent breakfast meeting aimed at giving them an update on the bank’s progress to date, the legislators said since inception in 1950, Barclays Bank has and continues to positively impact the lives of Batswana. “The recently announced President Mogae scholarship targeting tertiary education is highly commendable and demonstrates your commitment as a bank, to ensure the realization of an educated nation by 2016,” said the MP for Tonota South, Pono Moatlhodi. Moeng Pheto encouraged the bank to identify more remote areas that are currently without banking facilities as a means of further expanding its footprints in the country thus improving the dignity of Batswana by including them in the banking sector. In 2007, Barclays Bank of Botswana embarked on a robust retail expansion programme that resulted in an overall 50 branches across Botswana, making it the most spread-out bank in the country. For his part, the bank’s Managing Director, Thuli Johnson said his institution is committed to continue playing an active role in national development, which he said entails sensitizing the nation on key aspects of banking, for improved lives. Barclays Bank of Botswana employs over 1300 permanent staff, and services customers across the country through a network of 100 ATMs and 50 outlets.
Tourism Minister In Dubai Wildlife And Environment Minister, Onkokame Kitso Mokaila is in Dubai attending the 8th Global Travel and Tourism Summit organised by World Travel and Tourism Council. This is a useful forum for travel and tourism industry players, particularly the public and private sectors, to exchange views on a wide array of global issues that impinge on tourism development.
