Batswana Invited To Invest. Over sixty tourism investment projects in the hospitality and leisure sector
– from bush camps to 5 star hotels and game lodges - have been identified for development by 2010 and will be showcased to interested companies and individuals at the Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs or Peace Parks) Tourism Investment Conference, to be held in Johannesburg in October (20-22). .The conference is organised by the Boundless Southern Africa and the tourism Ministers of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa to explore new and exciting investment opportunities within the seven existing TFCAs Speaking on behalf of Boundless Southern Africa, Denise Spaull, General Manager- Corporate Strategy at Omega Investment Research, said the conference is organized for the regional and international investment community. He said the conference was inspired by the vision of sharing the benefits of hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa with the region through a concerted effort of promoting and developing Southern Africa’s Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) in a sustainable way. “The key objectives of the event are to raise awareness of the region’s significant investment potential and market a portfolio of unique, packaged tourism investment opportunities in the seven existing TFCAs to interested organisations and individuals,” he said. Spaull said there was no cost to attend the conference, however, as seats are limited, interested people are encouraged to register early in order to avoid disappointment. He said those who are willing to take the challenge with some of the investment opportunities are invited as well. Some of the places identified by boundless Southern Africa and big tourist attractions include the Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta, the Kalahari Desert, the Drakensberg Mountains and the Kruger National Park. All these places are located in Southern Africa’s Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs or Peace Parks). South Africa will host the 2010 World Cup and neighbouring countries hope to cash in from visiting football fans that will be travelling with their national teams. Botswana’s Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism has made its intentions known of capitalising on the event. A number of projects have been lined up to ready Botswana for the big event including hotels and stadia construction as well as other tourism based projects. BY AUBREY LUTE
