Two Hospitality Schools in the Offing? PDF Print E-mail

Service standards are still a concern in the tourism industry due to insufficient skills in the workforce.
The Minister of Tourism, Mr. Kitso Mokaila said it has been difficult to solicit the services of reputable trainers locally through the tender system and he had therefore advised the Department of Tourism to seek reputable institutions within the region that can conduct training for the industry.
He revealed that the Botswana Tourism Board intends establishing a Hospitality School during NDP 10 to improve service standards skills. The University of Botswana is also conducting a feasibility study for establishing a Hospitality and Environmental School. If it becomes feasible to establish these two institutions, their establishment would go a long way in improving service standards in the industry.
The Commonwealth Secretariat had also found it imperative to conduct a Tourism Industry Needs Assessment in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia, the Minister said.
