I hope there is now more freedom of expression for journalists in Botswana. I say this because when I left the country in 2002 people were afraid of writting certain things in the newspapers. Freedom of expression is a vital part of democracy. A government can only be a good government if it allows a free press. I asked some journalists to write a story about an issue in 2002 and I was shocked when they told me that they were afraid.
