This is what Sedibeng Choral society aims at giving you; A show made in Botswana for the pleasure of all. This past weekend they showcased a performance themed “Made in Botswana” and those who were not in attandance have surely missed out on one of the most exciting performances to be put together by a choral group.
The show was held at Maitisong on Friday and Saturday. On Thursday they staged a special performance for invited schools - Nanogang CJSS, St. Joseph’s College,Maru a Pula, Baobab and Botlhale Primary School among others. The group gave a breath taking performance indeed. The show consisted of a first half characterised by classical pieces and then the folk songs-Made in Botswana, after the intermission. The classical pieces offering was thrilling, with numerous solo performances by Oteng Zachariah,Refilwe Ramogotsi, Tshenolo Segokgo,Lucky Ramoloko and Mpho Nkani. The rendition of the folk songs was captivating and one of a kind as this was done in a not so conventional way. The songs flowed from one another and were an enactment. This gave a feel of watching a musical, with a bit of acting here and there and a poetic piece by Ntirelang Berman. The rehearsals as well as the performance on the night were extraordinary. The attire was appropriately selected. The musical director himself Mr Andy Batshogile lead a piece titled Thabo ke tsala yame. Other leadings vocalists for the folk songs were Refilwe Ramogotsi, Esther Motshegwa,Tshenolo Segokgo,Ralph Dennison,Thabang Tiro, Kelebogile Moapare and Tshepo Mothelesi. Most of the arranging and composition of the songs was done by Lucky Ramoloko while the rest were done by Andy Batshogile. The performance takes one down memory lane to their childhood times when all that mattered was playing out in the street with friends. It was a performance filled with so much energy and it pulled you in to feel as if you are part of the performance. The show ended on a high note with a standing ovation from the audience. I speak for everyone who was at the show when I say this is definitely one show you should have been to. Sedibeng Choral, kudos to you! The next show to look out for from the group is going to be on the 28th of November with South African Jazz muso Vusi Mahlasela and Allou April. Its certainly one to look forward to. Once again Sedibeng Choral Society delivers..... MADE IN BOTSWANA.BY LEBOGANG MPHELE
