With the year 2010 having barely started two of Botswana musical giants Culture Spears and Mapetla's albums are highly anticipated in the first quarter of this year.

Culture Spears which is undoubtedly the leading traditional dance group in this country has not released an album for nearly two years now after the run-away success of their third offering titled Khudu'.

The album together with the title track Khudu earned them another accolade in last year's controversial Botswana Music Union awards by scooping song of the year.

Another accolade which they also received in their sterling musical careers is the Certificate of Merit awarded to them by President Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama during last year’s independence celebration for being our country's cultural ambassadors to the world.

Culture Spears are in demand in South Africa and are liked by the who's and who's of that country's corporate head honchos and political elites including former South African president Thabo Mbeki.

They have also played in France During the 2008 Rugby world cup Final between South Africa and England.

Currently they are basking in the glory of the Ekentolo Volume two (2) with Chika dance taking the country by storm and sending both the old and young into a frenzy.

Ekentolo Volume 2 is a musical project which culture Spears co-produced with Mantshwabisi, which is a kwaito exponent signed under Kulenyane studios.

Since they did not release an album under their brand name (Culture Spears) their fourth offering which is expected by end of March is awaited with bated breath by hordes of their followers.

The high anticipation of the coming album is borne from the fact that Culture Spears have set the traditional music genre standards high so everybody including fellow musicians want to see if this time around they will surpass the lofty standards they have set themselves or they will fall short of the standards.

Culture Spears front man Kabelo Mogwe said they know what the public expects from them as such they cannot disappoint their fans but instead will raise the notch a bit higher.

He said they are currently busy on the studio and Batswana should expect their album which is long overdue by the end of March.

Another musical kingpin who has gone for musical hibernation for more than a year and a half is the dreadlocked, gravel voiced kwaito muso Thabo Ntirang known to his legions of admirers as Mapetla.

He is also poised to release an album very soon.

With the kwaito and kwaito kwasa genres in need of serious resuscitation, Mapetla is the man every kwaito lover is looking up to, to be the medication the doctor has prescribed for kwaito's illness.

His sophomore offering which included hit tracks such as 'sibuyile' received a luke warm reception from the public but this did not dent Mapetla's brand affinity as he continued to get bookings one after another to show the trust the public still has on him.

Commenting on his coming album Skhokho said Batswana should brace themselves for a super rocking kwaito album whch will catapult him into musical superstardom.

He said the album is going to rock Southern Africa because its appeal will cross borders more so that this year is 2010 with the world cup in South Africa in June.

He said his album is going to drop around or before the easter holidays.
