BY KHONANI ONTEBETSE
Former national Champions BDF IX are in the process of acquiring the services of a new coach following the departure of their coach, Stanley Tshosane who has taken a full time job as the Zebras coach.
They are also facing the mammoth task of recruiting formidable players for the team’s various departments. BDF IX won all their games in the play-offs and retained their premier league status.
First in their hit list were Prisons whom they beat 1-0 at the National Stadium before overcoming Miscellaneous 2-1 in Lobatse.
They also walloped Prisons and Miscellaneous 2-0 and 3-2 respectively in the last round of the play offs.
The club’s spokesperson, Spencer Kesebonye revealed that plans are at an advanced stage to recruit a coach and some players.
“Recently we interviewed a few coaches, plans are underway to rope in a coach and recruit some players,” he said.
Kesebonye said they would like to recruit some Botswana Defence Force recruits from recruitment training in an effort to beef up the ailing team.
He acknowledged that since the departure of Bernard Simakwenzi and Mpho Mabogo who decamped to Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs respectively his team had experienced goal-drought.
He was also quick to point out that they have a problem not only in the scoring force but also in the goalkeeping department.
Modiri Marumo has since joined Egyptian club, Haras El Hodoud and BDF’s rivals found the back of the net with easy.
The army outfit drew many games in the first round and as the league progressed their last man of defence, former relegated Premier League side Mosquito goalkeeper, Baenga Nkobi struggled to man the posts.
Kesebonye added that their eyes are set on re-building the team.  BDF last tasted their Coca cola and Premier League silverwares in 2004 and they were the play-offs candidates after finishing 14th in this past season.
“We would like to focus on the next season.
Since some of our quality players such as Simakwezi, Mabogo and Marumo were signed by other teams we have experienced some setback.
We have decided to recruit some of the BDF recruits and they are on trial,” he said.
He paid tribute to BDF commander, Tebogo Masire and the management “for rallying behind the team.”
