?Major to Brighten Blues? PDF Print E-mail
Township Rollers Head coach, Chico Nare is heading for Germany this Saturday to study a coaching course. Nare will be away for four weeks, but with his short stint away comes more questions about the Rollers camp. The team has hired Major David Bright, but it is not clear as to whether he is the Head coach or not. What is known definitely is that the Under 23 mentor will be in charge while Nare is away. Word from the Rollers camp indicates that the technical bench is crowded at the moment and this is expected to create commotion in a not so distant future. Currently the Rollers bench is made up of Retired Major David Bright (new), Chico Dance Nare, Mmoni States Segopolo and the University of Botswana Physical Education trainer Dr Onye from Nigeria. Information reaching Gazette Sport suggests that one of the latter two might receive marching orders. But those in the know do not see Segopolo going anywhere, he belongs to Rollers, he is one of the longest serving players the team. Segopolo is refereed as a member of the technical committee, Dr Onye is more of a physical trainer, taking into account what he does with the players, Nare was the coach. Bright was defiantly brought in a Head coach, there is no doubt about that, he cannot not be number two to Nare, said a close Rollers person. It is understood that the reason Rollers is non-committal on the position of Bright is that they are not sure as to how Nare will treat the news that he is an Assistant, but he came to Rollers as an Assistant at Mochudi Centre Chiefs, what would be the problem of assisting a sound coach like Bright? asked one Popa Popa die hard. But quizzed about the prospect of being second to Bright, Nare said, I have no problem with being an assistant to Major Bright. In actual fact I would be very happy to be his assistant, I can learn a lot from him, he said. The well traveled Nare said with Bright available at Rollers it would be much better than when he is alone at the team. He said he is aware that Bright will be coming to Rollers soon, most probably when the league starts, I understand that he will remain with the team while I am aware in Germany. When I come back I will continue with the team most probably as his assistant, he said. Retired Bright is currently under contract with the Botswana Football Association (BFA), it comes to an end in December. Some sport observers think that the Dream Team mentor, Bright could still be anticipating a lucrative deal with the BFA. Bright has a potential to take over at senior national team or become assistant to Rowe. One must also note that Sthandwa Mogwadi is still under six month probation, anything can happen, said an observer. Some of the Rollers people think that Bright would be away with the Under 23 team at times hence it is important to keep someone like Nare to look after the team during his absence. On another note it is a given that some of the Rollers fans did not endorse Nares appointment, but this is common within the football ranks, not all people can approve a decision especially a technical one like hiring a coach.
