By Boipelo Moagaesi It was indeed a night under the stars- a cold night under the stars to be exact with the remnants of winter clearly being felt. Despite the chills, the Gaborone audience with its generous spirit and warm heart turned out in large numbers to support an evening of music with lounge singer Robbie Taylor from Monte Casino in an effort to raise funds for The Ray of Hope Foundation. The event was hosted by Peo Promotions and sponsored by Fine Wines (A locally based wine distribution company), The No 1 Ladies Detective Opera House, Distel and Calsberg Larger. It was evident from the setting that the location and décor had been well planned and on arrival guests were treated to wine tasting before making their selection for the night. All tables and chairs were draped in white and as the centre piece for each was a bowl filled with silver stars stretching out on a branch. And of course there were the food platters that brought a smile to many, especially the meats! Speaking to Lisa Murihead from Peo Promotions and organizer of the event, their main wish was to raise funds for the Ray of Hope Foundation, a charitable organization that deals with children’s plights and dreams. “As I often bring Robbie Taylor, a well established entertainer and musician from Johannesburg, I saw him as best suited for this event.” From the audience’s applause and laughter, Robbie did appear to be the perfect choice as he effortlessly mingled with the audience, singing to and with them and bringing back memories of ‘Mama Thembo’s’ wedding and ‘Unchained Melody’. Commenting on the event, Jacques Brian Leonard an audience member remarked, “This is a wonderful evening under the stars with good company and good music. I’m meeting people I wouldn’t have otherwise met.” As the evening wore on, it appeared that winter had temporarily been forgotten. All were lost in song, good cheer and humour.
