BY LEXIE UNAMI MOSESThe Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Botswana announced the winners of its vision to transformation competition on Saturday 12th at the Limkokwing Fairgrounds campus. The competition was launched on the 14th July of 2007 by the former President H.E. Festus G. Mogae during the official opening of the Limkokwing University in Botswana. The objectives of this national competition are to encourage young people of Botswana to participate in the country’s Vision 2016. The competition required those taking part to write an essay on how they would like to see Botswana being transformed into an educated and innovative nation by the year 2016. This competition was open to both students and the public. The total number of entries was 804 and was shortlisted to 100 entries of 50 each in the writing category and visualization category. The judges were drawn from the fields of Visual Arts, Design, Fashion and Linguistics. 22 year old Kelesilo Kelesilo who has a passion for the arts and the overall winner of the competition walked away with P20 000, a trophy and a scholarship from the University of Limkokwing. Mr. Kelesilo ‘s winning creation was an abstract brush work showing the transformation of Botswana, preserving natural resources and heritage, as well as economic independence. The young man and his mother Mariam Kelesilo were very exited and said they felt really blessed. Mercy Bonnie Thebe, the MC had to read his acceptance speech as Kelesilo was crying out of joy. “The road map is to transform our country into an education hub that will attract and nurture our talents, thus providing the 21st century with techno savvy global graduates, something that I believe that Limkokwing truly stands for,” said Kelesilo. He added that the younger generation is an asset to the nation so the government should transform its traditional way of thinking and doing things in order to create an innovative economy for the 21st century. In the writing category, the gold award went to Chenjelani George who also received P6 000 and a trophy. Ntokozo Dube from the visualization category also got the gold award, P6 000 and a trophy. Kabo Harold Kgwasiya from the student writing category got the gold award, P3 000 and a trophy. The silver award went to john Dintle Seaketso who received P2 000 and trophy. The gold award, P3 000 and a trophy went to Bakgethwa Motlhabane from the student visualization category. The silver award, P2 000 and a trophy went to Joshua Oadira. Patrick Wasetso walked away with the bonze award, P1 000 and a trophy. Shorn Molokwane a fashion designer and one of the judges conclude, “it was very difficult to select the winners but awards went to those participants who were more creative and relevant to the theme.” He even added on to say in life there are three categories of people. There are those that watch things happen, those who make things to happen and those who wonder what happened. And therefore people should always aim to make things happen. |
